Signifeye doctors Mertens, Van Keer and Heintz participate as panel members at the AECOS conference in Florence

On Saturday, September 9th, the world of ophthalmology was treated to an exclusive experience during “The Masters Film Festival – Innovation into Practice” at ESCRS 2023. Central to this experience was none other than Dr. Erik Mertens from Oogcentrum Medipolis.

In June 2023, three prominent doctors from Signifeye, Dr. Mertens, Dr. Van Keer, and Dr. Heintz, shone as respected panelists at the international AECOS congress in Firenze. Oogcentrum Medipolis in Antwerp and Brussels Eye Doctors in Brussels – two eye centres that are part of the Signifeye network – are the first in Belgium to offer their patients a non-contact glaucoma laser treatment. This very safe and quick treatment is recommended by the Glaucoma Association as the primary treatment – even before using eye drops – for patients with elevated eye pressure. Thanks to its partnership with the company Belkin, Signifeye is able to offer this latest treatment method to its patients in Antwerp and Brussels.

In May 2023, leading doctors of Signifeye, Dr. Erik Mertens, Dr. Karel Van Keer, and Dr. Caroline Dauwe, documented their expertise. They contributed to the influential textbook ‘Cataract and Lens Surgery’ by writing an in-depth chapter titled “Management of Surgical Complications When Implanting Phakic IOLs”. This book offers a practical overview of the latest lens surgery, clearly highlights surgical techniques, and addresses the management of complications, all under the expert insights of leading experts in the field.

In May 2023, Signifeye marked a special milestone. A delegation of our dedicated ophthalmologists attended the ASCRS conference in San Diego, with Dr. Erik Mertens as the highlighted guest speaker.
