Dr. Erik Mertens earns prestigious FEBOS-CR title and shines at ESCRS Congress

At this year’s annual ESCRS Congress (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) in September, Dr. Erik Mertens once again firmly put Medipolis on the international map. He delivered no fewer than six presentations and one scientific poster, sharing his expertise in cataract and refractive surgery with colleagues worldwide.

But the true highlight? Dr. Mertens successfully passed the exceptionally demanding FEBOS-CR examination, a European top-level certification awarded only to a select group of eye surgeons. Worldwide, only 62 ophthalmologists have achieved this distinction — and just three of them are from Belgium.

The FEBOS-CR title (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology Subspecialty – Cataract & Refractive Surgery) is a recognition of outstanding expertise and experience within this highly specialized field. We are immensely proud of this achievement by Dr. Mertens, who applies his exceptional knowledge and skills every day in our practice.

Signifeye eye care practices pioneer with Belkin lasers to treat glaucoma in Belgium
Oogcentrum Medipolis in Antwerp and Brussels Eye Doctors in Brussels – two eye centres that are part of the Signifeye network – are the first in Belgium to offer their patients a non-contact glaucoma laser treatment. This very safe and quick treatment is recommended by the Glaucoma Association as the primary treatment – even before using eye drops – for patients with elevated eye pressure. Thanks to its partnership with the company Belkin, Signifeye is able to offer this latest treatment method to its patients in Antwerp and Brussels.
